UW Partner Agencies

American Red Cross: Humanitarian organization, led by volunteers, that provides relief to victims of disasters and helps people prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies.

The Arc of Whatcom County: Provides information, referrals, educational programs and advocacy for persons with developmental disabilities, their families and the organizations that serve them.

Bellingham Childcare and Learning Center: In partnership with the community, BCLC provides the highest standard and most affordable childcare for low-to-moderate income families assisting them to become self-sufficient.

Bellingham Food Bank: Whatcom County’s largest emergency food provider, provides free groceries to Bellingham’s hungry families and distributes food to small, rural food banks throughout the county.

Bellingham Mountain Rescue: Provides equipped and trained personnel to assist skiers, hikers, and climbers in trouble in the mountains and other terrain.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northwest Washington: One-to-One mentoring programs that improve the quality of life of children by building and supporting
relationships between children and positive role models.

Boys & Girls Clubs of Whatcom County: To inspire and enable all young people, especially those from disadvantaged circumstances, to realize their
full potential. Clubs are located in Bellingham, Ferndale, Lummi Island, Blaine and Lynden.

Brigid Collins Family Support Center: Building strong and healthy families to break the cycle of child abuse in Whatcom County. Free family support services to prevent, educate, and heal.

Camp Fire, USA Samish Council (Affiliate Agency): Builds caring, confident youth and future leaders. Camp Fire USA is inclusive, welcoming children, youth and adults regardless of race, religion, socioeconomic status, disability, sexual
orientation or other aspect of diversity. Camp Fire USA serves youth ages 3-17 through our club programs, camping programs and environmental education programs.

Catholic Community Services NW: Provides mental health and social service for children and families with limited or no means to reduce dysfunctions and enhance strengths and coping skills.

Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Services of Whatcom County: Provides crisis intervention, support and advocacy to victims of domestic and sexual abuse and provides prevention education to middle and high school students.

Evergreen AIDS Foundation: Serves people affected by HIV/AIDS by providing case management, financial assistance, community education, treatment adherence support, outreach and prevention education.

Girl Scouts of Western Washington: Provides all girls ages 5-17 with enriching experiences so they acquire the confidence, determination, and decision-making skills to address the critical issues they face in life.

GRADS Teen Parent Program: Graduation, Reality, and Dual-Role Skills (GRADS) is an in-school Family and Consumer Sciences instructional and intervention program for pregnant and parenting adolescents. This program falls
under the Career and Technical Education umbrella and is linked to Options High School for professional development, supervision, and support. The mission is to promote personal growth, educational competence, and economic self- sufficiency as socially responsible members of society.

Health Support: Provides educational, emotional, and technical assistance for persons with health or disability related needs including advocacy through self-help support groups.

Interfaith Community Health Center: Provides high quality primary medical, behavioral health and dental care to the citizens of Whatcom County regardless of their ability to pay.

Lifetime Advocacy Plus (Affiliate Agency): Lifetime Advocacy Plus mission: to enhance the lives and protect the rights of people with disabilities by providing guardianship, personal and financial services.

Lydia Place
: Provides for a 6-months transitional housing program for homeless women and children, providing tools for living skills needed to attain self-sufficiency.

Max Higbee: Assists adults with developmental disabilities to integrate into their community through recreational and socialization opportunities.

Northwest Youth Services: Provides counseling, foster care, and community-based services for at-risk youth and serving as a resource for families in times of stress and transition.

Opportunity Council:  Creating positive change and increased self–sufficiency for low and fixed income people. Services include: housing, food, shelter, childcare, Head Start, information and referral.
Salvation Army: Assistance to families and individuals in emergency situations, which require food, clothing, and household items, furniture, occasional rental and utilities assistance; recreation: adult social/spiritual activities; youth camp program; Christmas food and gifts; and disaster assistance.

Sean Humphrey House: Mission is to optimize the quality of life for low-income individuals living with HIV/AIDS, who may also suffer from other diseases and disabilities, and who are unable to live independently. One of the few Adult Family Homes licensed by the State of Washington to provide a residence, meals, medical management services, counseling, recreational activities, and other support to individuals living with HIV/AIDS.

Sun Community Service: Provides temporary transitional living and care management for adults with chronic mental illness.

Visiting Nurse Home Care:  Provides in-home care (including personal care, transportation, meal preparation, and skilled nursing) for elderly and disabled people in Whatcom, Skagit, and Island Counties.

Whatcom Center for Early Learning: Maximizes the potential of each child by providing early support services including: speech and physical therapy in the family’s home; information, referral and advocacy resources for families of
children with autism, Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, developmental delays or medical needs.

Whatcom Council on Aging (Affiliate Agency): Provides nutritional, social, recreational, and educational programs in partnership with community organizations to promote healthy aging.

Whatcom Counseling & Psychiatric Clinic: All donations to WCPC support Rainbow Center, the Clinic's consumer operated clubhouse and drop-in
facility in downtown Bellingham, where mentally ill adults can get a meal and a shower, meet peers, develop vocational skills, and work toward recovery.

Whatcom Literacy Council: Recruits, and trains volunteers to teach illiterate adults to read and write. The Council also recruits and trains volunteers to tutor English as a second language. Adults who need help are given free assessment and tutoring service.

Whatcom Volunteer Center: One-stop center linking people of all ages who want to contribute their talent and time to directly assist 350 organizations in meeting community needs.

Womencare Shelter and Domestic Violence Services:  Providing confidential, emergency shelter, a 24-hour domestic violence Helpline, crisis intervention and
support services for victims of domestic violence and their children since 1979. Womencare promotes a community response to domestic violence through outreach and education.

Whatcom Family YMCA:  Creates opportunities for all incomes, ages and abilities to develop values and behavior consistent with Christian principles through programs in safe, caring, community-based environments.

YWCA: Women’s membership organization, providing emergency and transitional housing for low-income women; support services for transition to permanent housing and work; educational programs for all women and girls in areas of personal growth, health, financial skills and community involvement.
